Women Involved in Rural Electrification (WIRE) is a statewide community service organization established in 1981 through The Electric Cooperatives of South Carolina, Inc.

WIRE was created as a non-profit organization to foster interest in and understanding of the rural electric program and to improve the quality of life in rural areas. The Lynches River chapter of WIRE was organized in 1994.

Their motto "People Helping People" aptly describes the volunteer work of the women in WIRE. Members are involved citizens aiding victims of tornadoes, hurricanes and house fires, supporting homeless shelters, children's homes, and programs sponsored by Habitat for Humanity and the Palmetto Project. You'll find WIRE members involved in the Operation Caring project visiting children's hospitals and nursing homes near the holidays. For more information on WIRE, or how you can get involved, visit www.ecsc.org/wire or just call the Lynches River office.
