2018 is already off to a record-breaking year for many across the United States, and here in South Carolina we are no exception. In this area, the year started with the lowest temperature averages in 90 years, and power companies have experienced all-time, peak load demands across the state. These record-breaking conditions translate to higher electricity usage and higher electric bills for almost everyone in the state.
We understand this is a challenging time for our members, many who have struggled to heat their homes during this extreme cold snap. You may not have made any noticeable changes to your thermostat settings in your home, but with the extremely low temperatures heating your home is more difficult than normal, which drives up your electric usage costs. We are proud to say we have not raised our rates since 2014 and please know, all members pay the same rate per Kilowatt (kW). You can monitor your kW usage on your online portal account or on the new LREC Mobile App.
In the next couple of weeks, as you receive your first power bill of the new year, resist the temptation to compare your bill with a neighbor or family member. Look closely at your service period, because not everyone's is the same, and how many kWs you used this bill period. For more information on how to understand your bill, follow this link.
As always, we are here to serve you. If you have any specific questions about your account, please do not hesitate to call us at 843-672-6111 or 1-800-922-3486 Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.
