Applications for the tour are available at the Lynches River office, online at lynchesriver.com/community/washingtonyouthtour, and from high school guidance counselors. The deadline for submitting an application is Friday, Feb. 26.
Finalists will be selected to appear for an interview by a committee of judges. At the time of the interview finalists will take a short test on their knowledge of electric cooperatives. Test study materials are provided with the application.
Students selected for the tour are eligible to compete for a $5,000 college scholarship awarded to one South Carolina tour participate by The Electric Cooperatives of South Carolina, Inc. The scholarship will be awarded to a student who successfully completes a community service project. The scholarship will be awarded in August.
As participants on the Youth Tour, delegates will travel to Washington for six days of non-stop activities. Students will meet their legislators, visit historical sites, learn about cooperatives and make friends with high school juniors from across the country.
